The "Best Foot Forward" Protocol
A two-day workshop has evolved since Best Foot Forward was first presented at
the 2002 EMDRIA Conference in San Diego. On day one we review all the steps in
the protocol with the help of an instructional video and we practice some key
sections. On day two we take an-depth look at information processing and
clinical flow, and have a supervised practice of the whole protocol. Continuing
education credits have been approved by EMDRIA and several other professional
organizations. Workshop features:
Multimedia teaching format |
Main points summarized on slides/overheads
Instructional therapy videos
Interactive and practical learning |

Introductory Seminar: 6 CE credits
This workshop will introduce you to the Best Foot Forward protocol and show you
how and where it's useful. As a participant, you will:
Learn the eight steps of the protocol and
see videotape of its use with a wide variety of
clients, |
Learn clinical indicators for its use in
particular clinical circumstances, |
Learn the range of results and outcomes
from the current database, |
Sharpen your skills in using the
supportive, semi-structured processing in key sections of the
protocol. |
Advanced Practicum: 6 CE credits
This is designed to give you an in-depth understanding of BFF's processing
components and some hands-on practice in small groups. We analyze the process
from different perspectives - therapist-client factors and information
processing factors, especially somatosensory processing of eidetic imagery. We
also cover the ways in which the imagery from the protocol can be used in
subsequent therapy, whether standard EMDR, talking psychotherapy, somatic work,
or ego state therapy. You will:
Practice a complementary procedure that
extends EMDR in many clinical directions, |
Sharpen your understanding of information
processing concepts such as 'bottom-up' processing,
associative retrieval, priming, |
Learn of one conjecture about possible
subcortical processes contributing to the protocol's treatment
effects, |
Be able to make an informed decision
about the protocol's fit with your clinical
style. |
Please note that the material covered in the program is based on
phenomenological research (vs. controlled studies), cross-therapist
comparisons, and descriptive statistics (vs. tests of statistical
significance).
